Sichuan Province (in simplified Chinese 四川省) is also called Chuan or Shu. This province is a region in southwest China having the provincial capital located at Chengdu. Sichuan as a result of a long history and rich and beautiful scenery, is always known as the “Land of Abundance.” During the North Song Period, the Emperor divided the Chuan Ja Road into 4 paths, and they are called the “Four Chuan Roads”. It comes the name of Sichuan, because “Si” in Chinese actually has the meaning of “Four”. Another saying for the origin of the name of Sichuan Province is that the territory of Sichuan has four main Rivers, including the Minjiang, Tuojiang, Jialing River and Wujiang River. In the past, people regard “River” as “Chuan” in Chinese and therefore, it comes the name of Sichuan.

No matter which one of the real origin of the name of this province, what we know nowadays is that Sichuan province is having a subtropical weather and because of the terrain and the turn of the impact of the monsoon circulation, the climate in Sichuan is very complex.
Generally speaking, the eastern part of Sichuan Basin is a sub-tropical humid climate while the western plateau area is affected by the terrain, and as it is mainly in the vertical climatic zones in the region from the south to the north, the climate type was having a gradual transition from subtropical to sub-frigid zone, and at the vertical direction the distribution of climate was from the subtropical zone to the various climate types. The sunshine of the Sichuan Basin ranges from 900 to 1600 hours in a year, which is the province with least sunshine in China.

However, it is clear that Sichuan is one of the most popular provinces in China. Every year, there are millions of people visiting Sichuan. They come from China, as well as foreign countries. It is clear that Sichuan has a very great potential to grow if it could focus on the right direction of development.
